Which grader should you choose for a €100 card in 2026?
You have a card worth €80, €250 or €1,000 and you’re torn. Should you pay €8.50 at SFG, €17 at CCC, €79.90 at PCA, or ship it to PSA in the US? The right choice depends on three factors: declared value, acceptable delay, and target resale market. Here’s the CollectKit decision tree, calibrated on verified May 2026 tariffs.
The 3-question rule
Before any grader choice, answer three questions in order:
- What is the card worth today on Cardmarket? Recent median price + 15 % to account for the grading premium. That’s your "declared value".
- How long can you wait? 2 weeks, 1 month, 6 months. Delay directly impacts the tariff at PCA and CCC.
- Where will you resell? Cardmarket FR / Vinted? Stay local. eBay US / Goldin? PSA or CGC retain the edge on international recognition.
Once those three answers are in, the following tree gives you the optimal pick.
Fast decision table
| Card value | Quick pick | If urgent (< 4 weeks) | If US resale |
|---|---|---|---|
| €1-50 | SFG Classic (€8.50) | SFG (15-20d) or CollectAura Express (€13.90, 20d) | Not relevant, grading > card value |
| €50-200 | PCA Classic (€12.90) or CCC value-low (€17) | CollectAura Express (€15.90 Subgrade, 20d) | PSA Value Bulk via intermediary (~€50) |
| €200-500 | CCC value-mid (€20) | PCA Fast (€39.90, 1 month) or CCC Express (+€5) | PSA Regular (~€100, 25 days) |
| €500-1,500 | CCC value-high (€24) | PCA Fast (€39.90) or CCC Super-Express (+€20) | PSA Regular or CGC Standard ($55) |
| €1,500+ | CCC value-top (€28) or PCA Fast+ (€49.90) | PCA Excelsior (€149-590, J+1) or CCC Ultra-Express (+€40) | PSA Express / Super Express |
Read: for a €100 card, the default pick is PCA Classic or CCC value-low. If delay-critical, CollectAura Express. If targeting eBay US, PSA Value Bulk.
Bracket €1-50: visual grading only
On this bracket, grading is a presentation exercise, not speculation. The card isn’t worth enough for a slab to generate substantial ROI. So you pick the cheapest and most visual grader.
- SFG Classic (€8.50): 10+ color label variants, clean slab. Best market entry.
- SFG Full Art (€12.90): the artwork extends onto the slab, INPI patent. Spectacular for displays.
- CollectAura Standard 40d (€9.90): custom label included, 6,000+ artworks.
Bracket 1 verdict: SFG if you want the minimum tariff, CollectAura if the custom label matters. PCA Classic at €12.90 is valid if you send a batch of 10+ cards.
Bracket €50-200: the heart of French grading
The majority of FR submissions fall in this bracket. Charizard SWSH, Pikachu V Box, sought-after VMAX promos, less iconic alternative art. Here, PCA Classic and CCC value-low are the winning combo.
- PCA Classic (€12.90): cheapest in absolute, 6-month delay. Discounted at €10.90/card from 10 cards.
- CCC value-low (€17): best transparency on the market, 30 business days. Public Pop Report accessible.
- CollectAura Express 20d (€13.90 Standard, €15.90 Subgrade): speed/price compromise.
- SFG Full Art (€12.90): relevant if the card is alternative art where aesthetics matter as much as grade.
PCA dominates non-urgent volume. CCC dominates trust and pop transparency. The choice comes down to your delay tolerance.
Bracket €200-500: prudence becomes necessary
Above €200, you start risking enough money to want insurance and serious tracking. CCC value-mid stands out, but PCA stays competitive.
- CCC value-mid (€20): 25 business days, Pop Report, Arcueil drop-off possible from €501 declared.
- PCA Classic (€250-999) (€24.90): 6 months but safe. PCA Fast at €39.90 for 1 month.
- CollectAura Advanced 40d (€17.90): detailed sub-grades, defects mentioned.
- PSA Regular (~€100 all-in): justified for vintage WOTC or planned eBay US resale.
Bracket €500-1,500: security + speed
We’re talking premium FR cards: SWSH-SV alternative art Charizard, Moonbreon, certain Pokémon World Championship promos. At this level, insurance and delay weigh as much as tariff.
- CCC value-high (€24): reduced to 15 business days. Arcueil drop-off highly recommended (eliminates parcel risk).
- PCA Classic (€1,000-9,999) (€79.90): competitive for the upper bracket. PCA Fast (€149) for urgency.
- PSA Regular (€74 + €30-40 intermediary): relevant if vintage WOTC US or Heritage/Goldin resale.
- CGC Economy ($18): Munich hub lets you bypass the Sarasota intermediary, interesting for moderns.
Bracket €1,500+: centerpiece grading
Charizard Base Set 1999, Pikachu Illustrator, Trophy Cards, certain Magic Black Lotus Pokémon equivalents. At this level, we’re talking long-term investment, not speculation.
- CCC value-top (€28) + 2 % insurance: Arcueil drop-off mandatory, never uninsured shipping at these amounts.
- PCA Fast+ (€1,000-9,999) (€199): 1 week delay, safe and FR. PCA Excelsior at €249 for J+1.
- PSA Express / Super Express ($149 to $300 + intermediary): guaranteed auction-house recognition for vintage WOTC.
- CGC Walk-Through ($300): 2 business days, relevant for US-market cards.
On this bracket, absolute grading cost represents 1-3 % of card value. Optimization comes on delay and resale premium, not on tariff.
Leverage: what about grading 10 cards?
For a batch, the math changes. PCA Classic offers a discounted rate of €10.90/card from 10 cards. On a homogeneous batch of €50-200 cards, here’s the optimization:
| Batch of 10 cards at €100 | Grader cost | Logistics | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| SFG Classic | 10 × €8.50 = €85 | ~€8 | ~€93 |
| PCA Classic (discounted) | 10 × €10.90 = €109 | ~€8 | ~€117 |
| CollectAura Standard 40d | 10 × €9.90 = €99 | ~€8 | ~€107 |
| CCC value-low | 10 × €17 = €170 | ~€8 | ~€178 |
| PSA Value Bulk via intermediary | 10 × €23 = €230 | ~€40 (one batch) | ~€270 |
On 10 cards, SFG wins on absolute price, but PCA Classic discounted is the reference for those who can wait 6 months. PSA stays 3× more expensive.
The often-forgotten time factor
Tariff and delay are linked, but delay carries a hidden cost: during 4 months of waiting, the card generates nothing. If you’re targeting a limited drop or a set releasing in 3 months, paying €30 more for PCA Fast vs PCA Classic is almost always profitable.
- Acceptable wait 6 months: PCA Classic, unbeatable price/quality.
- Wait 1-2 months: PCA Fast, CCC standard, CollectAura Standard 40d.
- Wait < 1 month: SFG (15-20d), CollectAura Express 20d, CCC + Express (+€5).
- Urgent wait (< 1 week): PCA Fast+ (5d), CollectAura Premium 7d (€19.90), CCC Ultra-Express (+€40).
- Wait J+1: PCA Excelsior only, physical drop-off at the Paris 16e workshop.
Condensed decision tree
If you want the short version, here are the CollectKit heuristics:
- Card < €50: SFG Classic, period.
- Card €50-200, no rush: PCA Classic.
- Card €50-200, 1 month max: CollectAura Express or CCC value-low.
- Card €200-500: CCC value-mid by default. PCA Fast if delay. PSA if US resale.
- Card €500-1,500: CCC value-high + Arcueil drop-off if you’re in the Paris region.
- Card €1,500+: choice depends on market. CCC value-top + insurance for FR-EU. PSA Express for US.
- Batch 10+ cards €1-249: PCA Classic discounted €10.90/card.
- Japanese cards: avoid PSA (commercial pushback of the "JAPANESE" tag). Prefer PCA or CCC.
